Mac users love Macs. PC users tend to prefer PCs simply because it’s what they are used to. Whichever way a student goes, their computer is probably the most important piece of equipment they will use for college and in the long run it doesn’t matter which you pick as long as it fits your college needs.

I really want a Mac for college. In middle school, our school gave us a Macbook just for the school year, and I loved it! But my friend is telling me it's just over-priced (which it is) and won't have programs I need for my Major (which is Chemical Engineering). Like Microsoft Word, etc. I REALLY hate. But my friend is telling me it's just over-priced (which it is) and won't have programs I need for my Major (which is Chemical Engineering). Like Microsoft Word, etc. I REALLY hate how Windows 8 looks. I just don't want it.
And I don't want Windows 7, because it'll just be old, I don't want it if they aren't putting any updates into it, because we all know Windows loves to leave they're previous products for DEAD. I don't know what is better.Windows or Mac?
Which should I look into more? Best Answer: Apples computers ARE grossly over priced, incompatible, and proprietary garbage. Most users end up installing windows on them to get them somewhat compatible.
When they end up, they've spent an average of 3 times as much as a PC for a 3rd the price that can do everything they wanted out of the box. Out of every 100 computers sold daily, 95 are PCs.
That should tell you the truth in the matter. As far as Engineering goes, you'll find Engineers predominantly use PCs.

Edit: On a side note, working for a company who uses Mac computers in no way makes one an Apple Certified Technician. Your friend is both right and wrong. It is definitely overpriced, but that's because you're paying for Apple's self-branded products. You get what you pay for, and quite honestly if you can afford the money, it is worth it. Now, your friend is wrong in another way. Mac OS X has their own dedicated version of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and in some ways outbeats the current 2010 version for Windows.
Moreover, Macs also support Apple's iWork and iLife software line-ups, which pretty much covers every single multi-media and office-related aspect of the computer industry. Again, this is all expensive stuff, but is definitely worth it, if you can afford it. Windows 8 sucks, but it's still in preview, and to this point no computer on the market it has it. Moreover, don't judge something by its age - Windows 7 may be old but to this point it is the most comprehensive and drastically improved version of Windows since the XP/Vista era. It is still supported by many businesses, and has Microsoft's Full Suite of Office (which is highly unnecessary, it's nearly $800 if not more).
So really, it all comes down to price. If you can afford all the goodies in a Mac, get yourself a Macbook. If not, look for an alternatively powerful laptop for about $800. It may not be a mac, but it will get the job done and for a cheaper price. Mac has Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and more. It can use many windows programs. You can install Windows 7 operating system on Mac for an extra price, which will allow you to use engineering programs like CAD and switch back to MAC OS at anytime with no loss of memory or speed.
Schools won't give you engineering programs for free. They cost $1000+ per program. I don't expect you or any engineering student to buy the program when they are all available in engineering computer labs at school and you might only use them for 1 semester.
I used my macbook through almost all of highschool and all of college studying engineering. It was perfect for me. Always worked fast, never broke down or slowed down.
Buying Microsoft Office for Mac is actually cheaper than buying it for Windows. And it offers the same features. In addition, Mac has its own version of Microsoft Office that is compatible with Windows and costs only $10. They are not overpriced. Macbooks cost on average $1500 and last 10+ years. PC's and Windows based laptops cost on average $900 and last 3-5 years before they start to slow down or die.
You get what you pay for. Hi Robert, I am a certified Apple technician and I personally would suggest looking at a Macbook Pro or Macbook Air. You can easily obtain the Microsoft Office suite for Macintosh and drool all over the bells and whistles the machine has to offer. AND YOU CAN ALSO HAVE A DUAL BOOT for Mac OS and Windows OS.heck even add a Linux partition if you'd like. I suggest the Macbook Air because they will be using a Solid State Drive (SSD) rather than a HDD (Hard Disk Drive) which will give you the speed advantage BIG TIME and will also give you the ease and comfort of carrying the laptop around BIG TIME.
The only drawbacks are mainly that if you wanted a CD/DVD burner drive you will have to purchase one to connect externally and that the SSD drives are only max size of 128GB i believe. Now if you dont mind carrying a Macbook pro you can tote that big boy around and have up to a 750gb hard drive and have the cd/dvd drive at the same time. Overall working with mac's all day every day I personally prefer the macbook airs and I think you should go take a look at the models they have in the stores. Seeing that they just released new Macbook Pro and Macbook Air models you may be able to find something nice. Hi JoiseyN, you will in many circumstances have biased people screaming at you to get one or the different.
I'm going to be straightforward, I desire desktops. Although, i think of Apple makes some super machines besides. To respond to your question, you may o.k. Run right into a pair of street blocks in case you purchase a Mac. Although, do no longer think of that via fact which you have a Mac, you will no longer have the means to effectively do your schoolwork.
My chum has a Mac and the only form of issues she unexpectedly met have been issues surrouding downloading and submitting papers on line and issues like that. Although, all she had to do replaced into only consult with the professor and that they worked it out. Macs are super machines and in case you may publish the money for one, choose for it. Although, I desire to get a computing gadget which could compete o.k.
At a plenty low priced. So i think it quite is as much as you:) reliable luck at school!!. Tell us some more. Upload in Progress.
